Goodbye, spider veins!
Asclera® (polidocanol) Injection is a prescription medicine that is used in a procedure called sclerotherapy to treat uncomplicated spider and small varicose veins. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your legs and long to wear shorts again, this treatment may be right for you!
This is a great treatment option for reducing or completely eliminating unsightly spider veins! Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure whereby a chemical, the sclerosant, is injected into a vein to entirely obliterate it. The sclerosant damages the innermost lining of the vessel, resulting in a clot that blocks the blood circulation in the vein beyond. The destruction of these types of veins can be desirable both medically and cosmetically.

Most of us have a few of these pesky veins popping up on our legs or ankles. They are tiny red, purple or blue veins that may be visible on the surface of the skin. They are very common in women as we age, mostly to due to sitting or standing for long periods of time and, for many women, it is simply genetics.
Treating spider veins is one of Dr Erin’s specialties. We will examine your legs for both spider and varicose veins. Varicose veins are larger and can cause pain. Those types of veins we are unable to treat and a vascular surgeon may be indicated prior to treating smaller spider veins. If we were to treat the spider veins prior to addressing varicose veins, it is possible the treatment may not be effective. We provide a complimentary consultation to see if you are a good candidate for Sclerotherapy treatment at our office in Scottsdale, Az
We use a solution called Polidocanol, which is a sclerosing agent that causes minimal discomfort and side effects. A very tiny needle is used to inject the solution into the spider veins. You may feel a slight discomfort during the treatment time, which is about 30 minutes. During that time we will inject as many vessels as possible, which is almost always enough time to treat both legs, back and front.
Most patients will need 2-4 sessions to fade the spider veins 70-80%. Following treatments Level 1 compression hose must be worn for a week to receive the optimal results.
You are encouraged to minimize physical activity for one week. If you over work the vessels you risk opening up the treated veins, which may affect results.
You can keep your veins healthy in a few different ways. Exercise is a major contributor to healthy veins, it keeps your muscles active and supports the flow of blood through the vessels. Exercising 30 minutes a day or more can keep your vessels healthy. If you do work long hours on your feet on sitting, wearing compression hose daily can help prevent new vein formation.
Vitamin C and bioflavanoids are specific nutrients that feed the vessels and support collagen production. Bioflavanoids can be found in certain foods, like blueberries, cherries and raspberries. Eating several servings of vegetables daily also prevents spider veins.
